We were currently on the route to Nebraska and I do not recalled much where we heading but I know this will be a week long trip. Because I enjoy road tripping it really doesn’t bother me wherever we might ended up.
We had two beds to sleep on and I took the bunk bed because it makes me feel like a child whose amazement on new things never stop. We had plenty of foods as well, clothes to wear, we also had an Internet router and a refrigerator. The only thing we don’t have was a toilet, but there are so many restroom and rest areas throughout the US States. Also in case anyone wonder if we even shower when we are traveling on the road, my answer is YES as there are showers in places like truck stops.
On this trip something changed, we received a text from dispatch stating there’s a confusion on the load, and since we were on a trip to Nebraska we can head down to Iowa after the load got dropped off, so we got rerouted to Iowa picking up ice cream from Blue Bunny and it was in LeMars, Iowa.
Beside the word ice cream I had no idea anything about Blue Bunny yet the name itself is sweet.
When we arrived to the warehouse, our load was not ready, so we decided to find a place where we can go and venture. We stopped at the guard shack and told the person that time we will be coming back later.
The lady goes have you been to the downtown area and we said no.
She goes you better visit our Ice Cream shop and the town. She gave us a map and off we go.
That was one February day and it was cloudy and cold because we were in the middle of winter.
We found a parking spot and we started walking. Then all of a sudden the smell of waffles and ice cream lingered in the air. We looked around and walked more and finally found where the smell came from.
My eyes widened when I saw this ice cream shop is two story, my mind got excited it doesn’t know what to check first or what direction I should be heading. All my sense were engaging sweeter than honey.
But, we decided to walked out in the meantime and on our way back to the warehouse will be stopping and grab us some ice cream.
The town is small yet the feel of everybody knows their names lives here it seems like it, from the size of the town itself. I am going to assume most people are working on their warehouse.
What is unique to this town is the sighting of ice cream cones with flavors and they are painted in different colors. They are everywhere and what a fun way to look at.
When we head back to the ice cream shop we sat down and ordered a bowl of ice cream but I do not remember the flavor anymore and one of the picture we were on it as we were facing the mirror.
From candles to postcards, to magnets, hats, tote, accessories and miscellaneous stuff they had it.
I also took a picture of me standing to a giant Blue Bunny container as featured.
These place was amazing and we did came back again few more times over a period of a year, same routine, different season, and summer was the fun time.
Place like Blue Bunny Ice cream is a must stop for anyone passing the area from the highway.
I did bought me a postcard, a pen and a pink sweater with hood which is also on one of the picture. The fascinating part is that our truck smell like baked chocolate chip and the smell in the hood lasted for a week. I still have the sweater to this day.
When we head back to the warehouse it was ready so that was good.
On the way out this time it was a man asked us if we have a freezer in our truck and we said yes.
He grabbed many samples and different flavors of ice cream as his way of saying “Come back again”.
And every time we picked up a load it became a habit for them to give us lots of it.
This is how we got to know Blue Bunny Ice cream.
Therefore, even nowadays I saw sighting of their ice cream on frozen aisle I smiled because once in our lifetime we not only know the place where it was originated but we had our shared fun experience with the company.
