I came across this pamphlet in the mail of an event that happened in Reno, NV, and it was about “Dress Like Barbie, Pink Jeep and a trip to Hollywood.” I was curious at first who could have know my address, so I flipped the page.
It was from my dear friend Rockit, so I called her if she is going to dress up like Barbie. She giggled and said No, but it would be nice for you to show up at that event and maybe you will become a judge.
I told her I need to check my appointment book first, as my life is full of publicity.
After we were done talking I found out I was free that week, and instead of calling Rockit back this time I am going to show up unexpectedly.
I flew two days ahead and landed in Reno International Airport. I drove downtown Reno and checked in at my suite in El Dorado Hotel and Casino.
My plan is to show up the next day to Rockit n Rebel’s pad and surprise these explorer friends of mine.
Come the next day I ring their doorbell, and when Rockit opened her door in her Pj she goes “Barbie” with her eyes opened and a smile on her face. We both gave each other a tight hug.
She did appreciated a random visit, and she asked me what was my plan that day and I said hanging with you folks. Rockit smiled and said come with me Barbie as I have lots of errands to do. We will leave Rebel because he had two webinar. We did errands alright, from going to the bank, shopping, had lunch, and with extra time she drove us to Nevada Automobile Museum.
I asked her if she’s been here before, and she goes once with Rebel, but there is something I want you to see, this is why we drove here. This museum is amazing and larger than what it looks like from the outside.
We were everywhere, and on the side of my eyes something caught my eyes in pink color. Rockit noticed and she said go ahead and I catch up with you in a bit.
I was excited to see what is that pink area in the corner, and when I hit the area I got giddy because this is Barbie’s area. The vibe brought me back to the time when I appeared briefly on a movie I won’t mentioned.
I took pictures of me inside that pink booth. All of a sudden an employee came over and asked me if I need help taking a picture of myself. I told her sure, if you don’t mind I would love to take more pictures of me on different poses.
For a moment she looked at my face and her eyes widened. She goes, you look like that real Barbie on magazines, or are you a contestant of that Barbie event. I told her it’s me Barbie, but she didn’t believed me. But she said, whoever did your hair and make up was really good. All I said was thanks.
The funny part though was more and more people started coming around me, and they were not there to look at the booth but rather inspecting me from head to toe.
One guy even asked me if I was a drag queen lol.
I ended up spending an hour, as all these people that gathered next to me are not only taking picture of me with them, they are all sharing it to their social media accounts.
And many of them asked for my signature and I pleasantly agreed. My mental state was whether they believe me or not, I am the real Barbie, they do not see a lookalike celebrity Barbie in this town.
What goes through my mind that time was to discovered Barbie is celebrated worldwide, even in this part of the State.
I waved at Rockit who was standing in the corner watching all what was going on around me. She said, Barbie should we go on.
That’s when the group of people turned around and rushed toward me, and they started cheering my name. One of the maintenance guy had to tell everyone to break free. He then said, are you really the famous Barbie. Instead of saying yes, I just showed him my ID and his face blushed.
What he did next was greatly appreciated, as he guarded me and Rockit until we finished the tour. As my gift to him we took pictures together, and since he was carrying a polaroid camera I was able to autographed it.
There’s so much to see on these museum, from the Ghostbuster wagon, the Cars, and some of these Fast and Furious cars from the movie itself. Seeing the Ghostbuster wagon brought back that nostalgic feeling, because I was in New York City especially that Firehouse location.
Those Cars from the movie reminded me of the time when Rockit told me when she and Rebel went to Sedona Arizona, and on the way back they stumbled Seligman Arizona, and vividly she mentioned the inspiration of a once booming town that was left behind. Seeing the Fast and Furious cars was unbelievable, because they are next to me.
When we head out we stumbled a large crowd with many of my larger pictures. Everyone goes Barbie is in town.
Lots of camera flasher on this time was from the local TV stations.
As Barbie I always keep the knowing to be a role model, so I ended up doing all the interviews these reporters requested.
By the time we ere done it was 9:00 p.m., and by that time Rockit and I ordered food to go and went back to their place. Too tired to drive back to my hotel I stayed and slept in Rockit’s art room, since we talked till 3:00 a.m. They informed me they need to head out late the next day, and this time they were heading to Louisiana.
When I got up they were gone and a note is in the coffee table. It read… We were grateful of your visit and time we had spent together. Feel free at home and stay as you wanted. The key to the front door is next to the lamp. Just make sure to lock the door and keep the key with you. Love you Barbie and see you next time.
I went back to my hotel, showered and changed clothes. My destination this time was the Barbie event. Oh my, thirty Barbie look alike was a huge event here. Even little girls were dressed up like me. It was nice to blend it with them because no one recognize I was the real Barbie.
But, there was a tap in my back, and when I turned around it was that girl from the museum yesterday. She goes, aha, now I finally caught you. I smiled and asked how did she knew it was really me. She replied, the necklace you wore yesterday and your purse. I said, I got busted. She asked for a picture of us together and of course my signature. She then said, enjoy your stay here Barbie.
In the middle of the event my phone rang, and it was my manager asking me where I was, so I told her. She goes, I booked you an appearance in Hollywood two days from now, so you need to get back here asap. Wait I said, I was in a Barbie contest and my flight is not till two more days.
She replied, I pay all the expenses you spent Barbie so don’t worry about the money. Also, I will rent a driver to pick you up wherever you are staying tonight, and around 8:00 a.m. head to the Reno Airport and my private plane is there to fly you back to your place so you will have plenty of rest. After the event I drove back and dined in inside the hotel.
By 10:00 p.m. my phone rang, and it was Rockit. We talked for thirty minutes until we lost connection. As days came and sitting on the plane back to my place I said to myself… Barbie belongs to the World, and I fell asleep.
I wish Rockit n Rebel had a few more days just being home, but it was my fault because I took them by surprise. If I only told them I am coming, perhaps they cancelled or pushed their trip a few days more.
Maybe there will be next time when we can coordinate effectively.
