“It may be anachronistic to think of Indians manufacturing sophisticated Foxboro instruments used for transmitting electronic or pneumatic signals to measure temperature, pressure, flow, and level.”

— The Foxboro Company, November 4, 1968

This is the very first letter of Rexford that I did not feel any connection. When I read the letter from the beginning to the end, I’m lost. I tried to think in the past for what it could connect me to what I am reading, and I am not going further.

I took notice on the bottom left. The Foxboro Company logo is in there. It’s faded, but I saw it right away. I did recheck where the logo is at the very bottom, and I’ve noticed there are letters. So I flip over the page, and it’s embedded on the paper in some kind of font. It said EAGLE-A, QUALITY BOND, MADE IN USA. And this hidden sentence can only be seen when you aim it to a light.

On the very top of the paper on the right side above the date of November 4, 1968, there is also that FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS 02035, TELEPHONE (617) 543-8750 embedded in the paper.

Then there is the paper itself. Every letter that was typed, the footprints of the typewriter is in there. It is pressed into the paper. If someone is touching the paper, you will feel the life of what he was typing. So what came to mind is, like, I was reading it like a braille type of reading for the blind.

For the sake of senses, I turned the page over and closed my eyes. I start feeling all the indentation of letters from a typewriter. I run my finger through the entire pages twice, finding where it ends. And when I felt that less indentation on the paper, I hold that portion.

What my hand was resting on, and the one mark I went back looking for and never found, is on my Facebook page.
