When I saw the next Rexford letter what came to mind is Moses that the biblical history but she can’t be related to him.
This is the topic I am going to talk about on this theme. In the beginning of his letter, he mentioned the “impatient young people” and their personal view of over a 25 years old of age lacks ideas and creativity.
I do not know if what he said is true in his lifetime as I can’t speak for himself, yet by reading this letter, I had accessed what he was writing in that moment in time.
It sounds like he was impressed with Grandma Moses and perhaps inspired of what an elder woman can do when she was 76 years old.
Grandma Moses was one representation of no matter how old a person can be there is always room for improvement, for fun, for inspiration and to produce something that highlights a talent.
There is also that mentality of not pity herself, even she was too crippled by arthritis so she found something else to do towards a hobby worth pursuing.
I think there are still people nowadays think that above 25 years old can’t produce of greater goods and a pest in society. Actually, in my opinion 25 years old are indicisive, immature, they think they know everything but the reality is they never experience yet the ups and down of life.
Speaking about that I didn’t even know I am creatie until i turn 40 years old and that was just the beginning. As time goes by and I got older, my creative evolved which I ended up having many creative hobbies.
Someone in my life once asked for my help finding an apartment to rent. I told her I would not do it for her but would help her with what to say. I explained she could do it herself since she is retired. Her response was she is old already and she is not supposed to be doing this things. I don’t think at the age of 70 you are old. You just rely on people to do things for you, so I told her I can’t help her.
I barely know anyone in my generation as old as Grandma Moses that are physically active. What I observe most when a person hit a certain age they become less active, less productive and unmotivated in life. They become accustomed to thinking they are old and retired so they stop growing mentally and mostly physically.
This letter in my opinion is deeply rooted with touchy emotion.
It is about someone’s life was being enjoy because painting a canvas or for me personally painting my old purses and shoes goes beyond just owning an item. It is time consuming alright but once the images or colors comes together whatever subject she had it can be seen through her painting.
We can have a life and hobby of simulation such as playing video games, watching TV and any activities to pass the time or a life and a hobby of inspiration such as get active, learn how to dance and whatever things that will produce lively existence.
What she choose was her legacy.
