This is one of the items that’s been sitting on my online store which I never paid attention until lately and made a change because how I displayed it, it looks very plain.
I found it on a thrift store and paid $10.00 for. I know this type of a bag something that looks chic from that bow infront of the bag to that colorful black and lavender almost mimicking an animal such as cheetah’s color but with more personality and less dangerous to own.
When I brought it home I had this conversation with the bag saying you are just looking fabulous.
Come to find out it was made by Betsey Johnson whose merchandises are always loud and proud.
With this awareness I decided to revise the images and created a video of the same theme.
Just take a look at the brand that is similar to Betsey Johnson. Let’s start with Versace, Paul Gaultier, Anna Sui, Moschino, Vivienne Westwood.
And all of a sudden Harper Finkle came to mind and right away I saw a glittering disco ball as an earrings, bell bottoms parts in purple, a green velvet blazer, 1980’s plastic bracelets and a background loaded with colors that if someone is going to see it…it will overwhelmed their brain in terms of which one to look at first.
Harper is random because I didn’t know she existed until I started looking for a character imagining how would my bag looks like if carried by the same personality as Betsey Johnson.
The vibe of these famous characters is unapologetically screaming, on a higher pitch. There is also that playful vibes, humorous, pop culture parodies as well as the personality of steampunk and that famous Harajuku which is always a trend in Japan. For a mood, it embodies that fairytale story in a dramatic stage. Come to think of it, it can also be the rebellious, don’t-care type, firm with “this is my style and I am going to stick to it.”
That 1980’s era lived in Betsey’s world from fishnet stockings, punk rock, that Boy George and Wham’s era with some cartoon elements like that Betty Boop all in or nothing type of unapologetic styles and colors.
Come to think about it majority of my items are colorful even with my shoes and purchases so combining what my model wears plus the background belongs to my own persona.
Wearing any of these brand designers I mentioned is about freeing myself from the plain Jane colors. It sends a clear message of self-confidence without any words to say, and that cosplay characters that comes to life.
Besides on Halloween I barely see people that dress eccentric, chaotic and artistic on a day to day basis.
They are designed for people who don’t worry what other people say or think and did I say anyone that dress like me are upbeat conversationalist.
At the moment this Betsey Johnson bag still hidden in my closet waiting for the right buyer and perhaps for now I should use it instead.
Although I didn’t wear it I did hold it and walk around with it inside my room and what I felt was proudness and power. Certain bags, when I wear them, make me feel good emotionally and spiritually.
Yes, thrifting is fun and when a person learned how to incorporate their personality into the type of bag they wear there is a show that is about to happen and that…DISPLAY YOUR PERSONALITY BOLDLY.
By holding this bag and feeling that power again, my head is now thinking maybe I should shop for another Betsey vintage bag.
