The Velvet Moonglow Room, New York, 1960. The place is packed because the club promoter spread brochures about my appearance, and I have never been in this club until tonight.
I feel so much gratitude that even though this is my first day performing here, my name travels all over the world.
Wherever I go, whatever I do, when I appeared in the crowd, I will take a moment to stand still, just being quiet, looking around, capturing how wonderful it is. To be accepted by a huge group of people.
It’s been a practice of mine, whenever I raise my pink scarf above my head, it means I am going to take a bow. And that is my gesture of thankfulness for the warm acceptance.
This is the funny part because when I thought I am ready to sing and I open up my mouth, my brain went blank trying to figure it out. Which one I am going to sing because there are so many songs in my head that is currently singing, ha!
Well, to make it not obvious that I froze, I just close my eyes and breathe. And that gave me the moment I am looking for, so I can belt out the song that I will be singing. But honestly, my brain is in random thinking what will be the best opening song.
The song I finally chose, the crowd that would not let me leave, and the famous couple waiting for me after midnight are all on my Facebook page.
