Disneyland 1961: The Lost Postcard

Before I went to bed last night Instagram gave me a recap — last week I shared 7 reels and 2 posts, 1.1k reels and post views, and 90% views from non-followers. Overall that recap is wonderful for someone like me.

Although I have been sharing posts and videos for ten years, this is that moment where I decided to nurture my account and start a daily rotation of content. Rebel and I have 625 followers, and even though I am slowly cleaning out fake accounts and bots, last week I gained 5 followers. It is a slow rise yet promising.

I am slowly attempting to form a habit to schedule one post per day. The Thursday spot is open — and I know what it will be. It is about a postcard that has written notes in the back.

This is a picture of Disneyland where Donald Duck is riding on a Dumbo seat with a gray hat, while those 3 ducks — I think they were his nephews — are on one of the Dumbo seats as well, standing on a rail. I wish I knew what kind of ride that is, but it’s good I am showing the picture.

In the back, the stamp is from June 6, 9AM, 1961. The stamp is a 4-cent Lincoln. It was addressed to a person named Joyce of Kansas, MO — and the note goes…

“Dear Joyce, Thought we’d drop you a line from wonderful disneyland and say HELLO! Our only regret is that our leaves are up soon, had such a nice time while it lasted. Sure wish you could’ve been along to see Disneyland with us. Love Bob and Brigette.”

How sweet that Bob and Brigette remembered Joyce. That short message captured exactly what they were feeling in that moment. It also made me smile when the sender — I assumed Brigette — wrote: “our only regret is that our leaves are up soon.”

An emotion that most can relate to — even me. On my Monday theme, which is storytelling about our weekly trips, I had felt that way too — especially on the day heading home, when we are just an hour away.

Lucky for me and my partner though, since driving coast to coast is Rebel’s form of job. Usually after 3 days off we are back on the road again to another destination.

Wow — it sure did trigger such a memory of Venture Boldly, which is our handle.

Come to think of it now, for my first postcard story, it made me feel that Postcard Thursday — or any day really — shares a similarity not just with Thursday’s theme but with Monday’s as well! What do you think of this 1961 time capsule?
