The universe has a fascinating way of reminding me of tasks I may not have time for, yet it always finds a moment for me to address them. These reminders often manifest through objects, signs, sounds, or tactile experiences, ensuring that certain things come to fruition. This experience perfectly encapsulates how I found myself blogging about Duke today instead of postponing it until tomorrow.

Wednesdays tend to be my busiest days, a weekly routine I have come to expect; consequently, the thought of blogging about Duke had not entered my mind at all the last minute.

Yesterday, while visiting a Salvation Army Thrift Store, I stumbled across several outdated Betty Boop calendars from 1986, each priced at $3.00 and still wrapped. It seemed evident that someone had considered purchasing them but ultimately left them behind. As I was preparing to check out, I noticed them on my left and immediately recognized their potential, prompting me to buy them all.

Earlier today, I removed the staples, cut the calendars in half, measured each piece, and took individual photographs. My goal is to transform them into stunning works of art through collaging and other creative techniques, primarily focusing on framing them.

As an enthusiast of ephemera, I decided to sell these creations. Utilizing a framing app allowed me to present my work professionally, emphasizing how these art prints can enhance any wall. Each Betty Boop print is not only charming but also affordably priced, making them ideal for gift giving.

One particular print stands out distinctly, despite the overall beauty of the collection. It features Betty standing on the shore, with a catamaran yacht in the background. Adorned with a Carmen Miranda fruit salad hat and lots of lei necklace, she wears a hula skirt, embodying the essence of Hawaiian hula girls. In the background, Bimbo holds a ukulele, further evoking the spirit of Hawaii.

At first, I did not make the connection to Duke Kahanamoku’s native state, but as I write about my experiences today, the significance becomes clear.

An hour ago, I checked my Instagram account and encountered a video of a large black dog emerging from the kitchen, chewing on something. As the camera focused on the dog, I heard someone call out, “DUKE, DUKE, DUKE!” This led me to wonder if that was indeed the dog’s name.

In that moment, the universe seemed to convey a message: there is something meaningful to write about Duke, which has now become the essence of my story for today.

Throughout the day, these seemingly simple nudges—images, sounds, and especially the woman calling the dog’s name—interconnected to form a larger narrative. It is remarkable how everyday events can coalesce into a more significant story.

As I conclude my reflection, I am greeted by the image of Duke’s smiling face, followed by a gentle bow of his head, which I interpret as his way of expressing gratitude for keeping his legacy alive.

While some may find this narrative peculiar, connecting with spirits is not unfamiliar to me; I have often found myself channeling them throughout my spiritual journey.

I hope this story brings you a sense of peace and warmth, just as it has for me.
