Looking for the Right Light

The Motherboard of Everything

Coin collecting is such a fun profitable hobby that I came across so far.  The temptation of buying and selling different denomination of coins is really strong and I have no intention to slowdown.

As I got deeper into my niche I have to admit one thing that I am constantly researching is finding the right light to have a very appealing picture of the coins.

I started with taking picture of a coin  a close distance with my phone and without a flash.

It seems working but then  I recognized it is not the best option.

Then I experimented with putting the coins with different background such as purple, green, yellow and blue index card.

They seems working as  and I kind of like it.

With this choice I was able to give a little color for a background.

Here’s what I did are;  for the penny it is the white index card.  The Nickel is belong to the black index card, the dime is for the blue card, the quarter is purple, fifty cent is yellow and dollar is green.

I have to say I dig it.

Then last week I went to the coin store and bought me some different coin denomination.

That’s where something changed.

I was able to talked to a young guy whose in charge of taking pictures of their coins for sale.

He mentioned to me he uses four lights with the same watts.

He also added instead of pointing the light to the coins, let the light shadow the coins.

By doing it the way he suggested, it will eliminate not to have a shiny photograph of the coins (especially if the coin is old).

A camera that has a micro feature is also the best for this type of photograph he said.

Unfortunately,  I don’t even have a lamp to begin with.

However, this will be one of the item I will purchase soon.

For now, I am using a fluorescent bulbs a light.

It’s been a learning experience that I been going through just to make it right.

Eventually, I will get there soon.

Until then….I will work with what I have.
