Oh, the delightful chaos of today! Yesterday, I snoozed like a log, but last night, my brain decided it was time for an all-night dance party, leaving me wrestling with a sleepy fog now.

The plan is to spill the beans about Duke’s snazzy new plate card hitting the scene this December. But that’s a tale for another time because there’s a wild saga unfolding between me, Duke’s foundation, and Malamo Pono! I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for a response!

Which leaves me random story which is still have something to connect with Duke or Hawaii.

Yesterday, while heading home from my treasure hunt at the thrift store, I clutched a Sol-ti Original Superfood Hydration drink. One sip in, and I thought, “Well, this is a flavor adventure!” With chlorophyll, aloe vera, lemon, and maple syrup, it whisked me back to the days of drinking those quirky Chinese herbs in my youth.

Out of nowhere, Duke popped into my head, and I thought, “What on earth am I going to blog about now?” Absent-mindedly, I slurped my Sol-ti, and bam—right in front of me were some Hawaiian words on the bottle’s backside. Intrigued, I spun it around to discover, “Let Yourself Shine, win a trip to Hawaii.” Suddenly, a lightbulb pinged above my head, sparking a blog idea, albeit a small one!

Upon arriving home, I scanned the QR code and discovered that the offer will be available shortly. I subsequently entered the contest and mentioned it on their Instagram account. It would be delightful to win the grand prize, as it would also allow me the opportunity to visit Duke’s bronze statue during the experience.

Today, as I noted at the top of my blog, I’m running on sleep fumes, making it tough to brainstorm blog topics. But surprise, surprise—I was wrong!

Just as I was ready to jot down my sleepy thoughts, I peeked at my inbox. Lo and behold, Sarah, the Executive Director of Duke’s Foundation, emailed me back with a handy link to help with my inquiry. What a lifesaver!

Next thing I knew, my eyes drifted right to Nadine’s travel expense papers for her Aussie adventure to see Duke’s statue unveiling. Naturally, my curiosity got the better of me, so I snatched them up!

For some reason, every time I sift through her paperwork, I get hit with a wave of uncalled-for empathy. Even after stashing them away, they’ve found their way back to my desk, and here I am, diving in again to pin down these swirling feelings.

I just cracked open her envelope with her passport tucked inside, and seeing her name and address was like a mini fireworks display of excitement! Now, clutching her passenger ticket and baggage check, there’s a touch of melancholy in the air. I unfold a receipt from Harvey World Travel showing Nadine shelled out $88.00, with a Qantas Honolulu ticket stapled to the side like a tiny treasure map.

Up next, her boarding pass to seat 23C. There’s even a note that reads “SPECIAL SERVICE: WCHR VIP WIFE OF DUKE,” signaling she got the royal treatment! A duplicate receipt from BankAmerica traveler cheques steals the show, boasting Nadine’s true signature and address dated 10/01/86—it’s a gem! And last but not least, three totally rad Polaroid pictures of a Duke statue snapped by Nadine herself. What a treasure trove!

Clutching Nadine Kahanamoku’s travel documents filled me with pride, like finding a treasure map, because they’re a sentimental gem for my Duke blogging adventures. It feels like these documents were destined for me, bridging her world with his in my heart.

As I tucked them away, the radio crooned Sade’s “Kiss of Life,” the very song I dedicated to Duke on Valentine’s Day. I chuckled and thought, “Alright, Duke, this must be your cosmic thumbs-up for my antics!”
