The Famous “Cinnamon Rolls” Corner

Yesterday, we played tourist in Santa Fe, New Mexico, snapping pics with the Santa Fe Trail plaque like true explorers. Fast forward two hours, and we rolled into the Colorado Point of Entry.

Colorado has me buzzing with excitement—so much to see and do!

Cruising down the highway, a sign flashed by: “Scratch Made Cinnamon Rolls.” I casually mentioned it to Ken, not thinking much of it, until—BAM—another sign, “Famous Cinnamon Rolls.”

Clearly, it was destiny calling, and we decided to parked at this place for the night and investigate this sweet siren song.

Even with the windows shut, the aroma of cinnamon rolls wafted in, making our stomachs grumble in agreement. After a quick wardrobe change, we headed inside.

The place screamed homey vibes, but our mission was clear: find those legendary cinnamon rolls. While everyone scattered, I went on a side quest for M&Ms, but struck zero gold.

Then, I spotted a Chewbacca poster and had a lightbulb moment—time for a selfie!

Finally, we found the cinnamon rolls, and boy, they were gargantuan!

The next day, I grabbed a newspaper and nearly did a spit-take at the headline: “Johnson’s Corner, famous for its cinnamon rolls, closing doors as it prepares for the next chapter.”

Turns out, while the location will stay put, it’s morphing into a Black Bear Diner. That explains the construction chaos out back. But fret not! Those iconic cinnamon rolls, with over 15,000 baked monthly, aren’t disappearing. They’ll still be available in the store, alongside a parade of other baked delights.

I dashed back to snag a few rolls—not just for us, but for our pals and a slice of nostalgia.

As we hit the road, I just had to steal one last glance because, who knows, next time I’m in this neck of Colorado, it might not be Johnson’s Corner anymore. It’s all about business, and change is the name of the game!

Apparently, TravelCenters of America took over from Chauncey Taylor, the founder’s stepson, back in 2014.

Although it is only overnight our stop at this legendary “Made to Scratch Cinnamon Rolls” corner, I soaked up more knowledge than I ever imagined.

Where’s the next adventure going to take us?

Well, that’s a riddle for later today!
